Word of Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s vow to retire from sports radio if the Diamondbacks win Game 7 of the NLCS against the Phillies on Tuesday has reportedly reached Arizona’s clubhouse.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was as asked by Bob Nightengale about Russo’s comments, at which point he confirmed that he’d heard what “Mad Dog” had said about an early retirement.
“I’m looking forward to that,” Lovullo said, per Nightengale.
It seems the idea of Russo retiring from sports radio has shifted the allegiance of many MLB fans, who have begun rallying around Arizona in hopes they win the series finale on Tuesday and bring an end to the 64-year-old’s career.
Fans on social media had plenty of jokes after Russo’s bold guarantee, as the Diamondbacks’ bandwagon grew rapidly ahead of Game 7.
