The 2023 Gold Glove winners were announced on Sunday evening, and this year’s group includes 13 first-time winners and two rookies.

Among those first-time winners is Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes who managed to do something that no National League third baseman has done over the past decade — win the award over Nolan Arenado. 

Hayes’ win this season ends the stranglehold that Arenado has had on the award since he made his Major League debut during the 2013 season, winning it every year since then — until this year. 

The rookie winners are New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe and Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle. This is only the third time in league history that two rookies have won the award (it also happened in 2020 and 2022). 

The World Series champion Texas Rangers also had three winners, including star outfielder Adolis Garcia who won the award for right fielders in the American League.
