The Yankees made big news by acquiring outfielder Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade on Wednesday night.
The team also had some fun with its impactful transaction by taking a jab at an MLB reporter who infamously posted an erroneous tweet and typo regarding a Yankees star one year ago.
Last year, it briefly appeared as if Aaron Judge might sign with the Giants as a free agent. The news was briefly broken by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, whose haste to be first with the report resulted in a misspelled tweet that went viral: “Arson Judge appears headed to Giants.”
As the Soto deal was being finalized, the Yankees’ social media team couldn’t resist making a joke on the anniversary of Heyman’s tweet by posting “Jon Soto appears headed to Yankees.”

That had to sting.
Many observers on social media noted the anniversary of the “Arson Judge” tweet, which might have inspired the Yankees to post their comical parody.
One year ago exactly. Just remarkable stuff. pic.twitter.com/9T1KMYffbf

The Yankees got a big laugh across social media with the tweet. However, they also appear to have gotten the last laugh with both Judge and Soto in their outfield for the 2024 season.
