Phillies’ Nick Castellanos Quickly Shifted to Dad Duty After Clobbering Home Run

Published on

Nick Castellanos and his son Liam have provided plenty of heartwarming—and light-hearted—moments to MLB fans. Castellanos’s son is often seated right by the on-deck circle during games and can sometimes be seen having a quick chat with his father before the Philadelphia Phillies star takes his plate appearance.

This time, Liam Castellanos had even more of a front-row seat, as he was the Phillies’ bat boy for their spring training game against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

And Castellanos didn’t hesitate to let his son know that he needed to be doing a better job.

The Phillies All-Star outfielder belted a 408-foot solo home run during the second inning, then quickly shifted into dad mode after running around the bases, giving his son a look and gesturing for him to come pick up his bat.

It’s not clear what Castellanos was saying to his son, but from the way the latter quickly ran out of the dugout, it was clear that the Phillies star was providing some stern, fatherly advice.

Did Liam simply get caught up in the moment?

“Apparently,” Castellanos told Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Because my bat was sitting right there. As a dad, I’ve got to hold him accountable.”

Priceless.
