Yankees Lose 7-0 for First Loss of Season

The Yankees march to a perfect season ended in the 6th game of the year with a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondback Ace, Zac Gallen shut down the Yankees for six innings, only allowing three hits while striking out 6 Yankees. Zac Gallen is now 2-0 with a microscopic ERA of 0.82 for the year.

Nestor Cortes started the game for the Yankees and quickly met with an onslaught of runs and hits by the Diamondbacks lashing out with 5 base hits and 3 earned runs before a push-bunt down the first base line turned into a nifty fielder’s choice double play of Anthony Rizzo, to Jose Trevino, to Oswaldo Cabrera to Cortes. Just like they drew it up.

Nestor Cortes kept the Yankees in the game after a rough first inning by pitching five innings, only allowing three more hits before turning the game to Victor Gonzales in the 6th, down 3-0.

The bullpen of González and Jake Cousins, making his Yankees debut, pitched the last 3 innings allowing 3 earned runs to round out the 7-0 score.

The only time the Yankees bats had life was the top of the second inning as Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera strung together base hits after two outs by Giancarlo Stanton and Alex Verdugo. Jose Trevino ended the best opportunity for runs with a strikeout.

Nestor Cortes is now 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA as the Yankees are 5-1.

Observations:

Jake Cousins is the Cousin of Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Aaron Judge is not getting any borderline pitch called in his favor. Low strike calls are consistently being called that come in below his knees. If pitchers get the benefit of a ball or two up in the zone, and a ball or two below the zone, it will be a long season for Judge and short games for Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Bold prediction-Boone loses his mind on borderline pitches and is ejected from today’s game.

The Yankees and Diamondbacks play today at 3:40 ET with Carlos Rodon, 0-0 2.08 ERA against tough righthander Merrill Kelly. Kelly is 1-0 this year with a 1.35 ERA and was 10th in the N.L. last year with 187 K’s.
