Mariners Add Former CY Young Award Winner

The Mariners added former CY Young Award Winner Dallas Keuchel to a minor league deal. He has been send to AAA Tacoma.

From 2014 to 2020, Keuchel had great succes in the majors. He won the CY Young award in 2015 and made two all star selections. Between 2014 and 2020, Keuchel had a 3.25 ERA over 1126.1 innings. He pitched over 200 innings three of those seven seasons, leading the league in innings in his CY Young season.

Since 2021, the struggles started for the now 36-year-old lefty. He has pitched to a 6.29 ERA in 260.1 innings of work. His walks, hits allowed and homerun went up in an alarming rate.

Last season for the Twins he pitched to a 5.97 ERA. He pitched in 10 games for the Twins, making six starts. He also had some time in AAA, where he pitched really well in six starts, pitching to 1.13 ERA in 32 innings of work.

Keuchel was still able to limit hard hit contact and getting a lot of grounders with an above average sinker. However, his secondary pitches were hit hard. His Change-up and Cutter combined for a minus 9 run value.

The Cutter went from an above average pitch to one of the worst pitches in the league for Keuchel. Since 2021, the Cutter had a combined minus 32 Run Value. That, including his Sinker going from elite to slightly below average makes two of his most thrown pitches an issue.

It was a busy day for the Mariners yesterday. Besides Keuchel, they also added Sammy Peralta. Both will be send to AAA Tacoma.
